WHAT’S THE STORY?
Beaver Gravel Corp and Hamilton County Parks is requesting a rezoning change to allow for a gravel pit mining operation on a parcel of land (10-07-30-00-00-002.000) that’s next to Potter’s Bridge Park, the White River, and within a mile of hundreds of single-family residences.

Hamilton County residents have a variety of concerns over this project, including:
Water Quality: Risk of contamination to Hamilton County drinking water
Health: Air Pollution & emissions next to a historic park and hundreds of homes
Traffic Safety: Increased Heavy Vehicle Traffic in a highly residential area
Bad City Policy: Re-zoning a residential area to allow for industrial operations

Result: ‘No Recommendation’ after the commission was deadlocked 5-5 for an unfavorable recommendation, and again for a favorable recommendation. Watch the meetingDecember 7, 2020:
Beaver Materials withdrawals the proposal but notes that they anticipate re-filing in “early 2021”January 2021:
Beaver Materials purchases the land parcelMarch 24, 2022:
Beaver Materials REFILES gravel pit proposal. Tentative Plan Commission hearing is May 16thMay 16, 2022:
Plan Commission issues an unfavorable recommendation (motion carried 7-3). The project moves onto the Common Council on June 14th and 28th.June 14:
Noblesville Common Council hears the issue and over 1 hour of public remonstrance (watch the recording)June 28: Council rejects the gravel pit
