Mr. Beaver has purchased the land intended for the gravel pit.

NOBLESVILLE, IN– Mr. Chris Beaver has purchased the land that was under debate last fall.

However, the gravel pit is not from a “done deal.” In December, Beaver Materials withdrew their petition to re-zone the land. They have not re-filed. If they do, they will be starting the process all over again, notifying nearby residents and appearing before the Plan Commission.

The hydrogeology study requested by Indiana American Water regarding water quality concerns is also not complete.

What can you do to help?

There are members of the Plan Commission who's terms have expired that voted in favor of the gravel pit. We must ask the governing bodies to appoint different people.

Other Plan Commission Appointments

Mayor Chris Jensen has requested Mr. N. Scott Smith stay on through another term to the Plan Commission. This is disappointing, as Mr. Smith called the evidence the public presented at the Plan Commission "hearsay," and voted in favor of the gravel pit despite IAW's water quality concerns.

Mr. David Burtner (County Commissioner appointment) has been asked to serve a new term, according to one of our volunteer’s outreach efforts. This is disappointing as well, considering Mr. Burtner reduced thousands of signatures against the gravel pit to a “not in my backyard” effort, silencing the voice of the people. He also voted to move the gravel pit plan forward favorably, despite the water company’s serious concerns.

Mr. Aaron Smith will be replacing Darren Peterson as the Common Council representative on the Plan Commission.

Ms. Gretchen Hayes' (Board of Public Works appointment) term has expired, but she took the concerns seriously over the gravel pit. We recommend she be re-appointed to her position for another term. Contact Jack Martin (Board of Public Works member) to express that Ms. Hayes continue to serve another term on the Plan Commission. His email is jack@martinandmartin.biz.
